- Scope and ContentFilm made in 1973 about Sir Ben Barnett. 16 mm film held at the London Metropolitan Archives with the reference number LSA/6168. Film lasts 14 minutes, 40 seconds. Digitised in 2019. Film starts with Barnett talking about his history in telecommunications from WWI onwards. Talks extensively about his WWI experiences with the Royal Engineers. Then talks about his experiences with the Post Office post WWI (telecommunications controller in Scotland in mid-1930s). For WWII he was put in charge of inland telephone system. Became Deputy Director General in 1949 and became interested in long distance submarine cable which Barnett discusses. Finally talks about television and radio (retired from PO in July1956). Then became Chairman of Commonwealth Telecommunications Board and he talks about its work. Finally talks about his work and positions with IEE and his other interests. [Digital version available]
