- TitleAls Prof Wheatstone to W F Cooke
- ReferenceUK0108 SC MSS 007/II/063
- Date1840-10-26
- Scope and ContentLong letter replying to all the points made by Cooke in his lengthy letter concerning priority of invention. Wheatstone states that the original patent was for two instruments one by each man, and that he had always been confident of the success of his own design and doubtful of the success of Cooke's design. He was reluctant to have his name follow Cooke's on the patent application as Cooke was then an unknown and Wheatstone had the larger scientific reputation, and it may have looked as though he was ceding the larger share of the invention to Cooke.
