Scope and Content
The J J Thomson Medal was awarded by the IEE Electronics Division for outstanding work over any period of time by a person or group of persons in electronics theory, practice, development or manufacture, without restrictions as regards nationality, country of residence or membership of the Institution. The first award was made in 1976.
The award was an Electronics Division award with the Electronics Divisional Board making a recommendation to the Executive Board, acting on behalf of the IEE Council, with the presentation of the medal customarily being made at a meeting of the Electronics Division.
From circa 2000 the JJ Thomson Medal began to be included as one of the IEE's Achievement Medals / Awards. See IET/PRI/22 (Achievement Awards / Medals) for material on the JJ Thomson Medal post-1998.
