Prior to 1983, this Centre was known as the North Midland Centre - please see IET/CEN/12. In September 2000, as a result of a strategic review of the Institution's activities and regional operations, Yorkshire Centre became known as the Yorkshire Branch. In October 2006 following the combination of the IIE and IEE to form the IET, the convergence of the IEE Branches and IIE Regions was achieved in the UK through the creation of Local and Regional Networks. At that time the IEE Yorkshire Branch was split into two separate Local Networks; North Yorkshire Network; and West Yorkshire Network. These two new networks together with South Yorkshire Network (formerly Sheffield Centre) and Humberside Network (formerly North Lincolnshire Branch) formed the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Network.
