The Sheffield Sub-Centre was formed in 1919 as a Sub-Centre of the North Midland Centre - please see IET/CEN/12 for North Midland Centre records. In 1976 Sheffield Sub-Centre became Sheffield Centre. In September 2000, as a result of a strategic review of the Institution's activities and regional operations, Sheffield Centre (including North Lincolnshire Sub-Centre) became known as the South Yorkshire Branch. The North Lincolnshire Sub-Centre subsequently became the North Lincolnshire Branch (see IET/CEN/49). In October 2006 following the combination of the IIE and IEE to form the IET, the convergence of the IEE Branches and IIE Regions was achieved in the UK through the creation of Local and Regional Networks. At that time the IEE South Yorkshire Branch became the South Yorkshire Local Network which was part of the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Network.
