The South East Midlands Centre was created in 1972 when the Rugby Sub-Centre was renamed. The Rugby Sub-Centre had been created in 1945 as an off-shoot of the South Midland Centre which itself had been created in 1918 when the Birmingham Local Section was renamed (Birmingham Local Section created in 1900) (information taken from appendix 8, A History of The Institution of Electrical Engineers 1871-1971). This series includes material for the South East Midlands Centre not the Rugby Sub-Centre which can be found in IET/CEN/18. This series also includes material from the Coventry Area which was part of the South East Midlands Centre. Material includes minutes of the South East Midlands Centre Committee, and the Coventry Area Committee. Also Graduate & Students and Younger Members Sections committee minutes for the Coventry Area and 1976/77 programme cards for the South East Midlands Centre.
