Scope and Content
The North Midlands Centre was created in 1918 (previously named the Yorkshire Local Section). The Yorkshire Local Section had been created in 1910 when the Leeds Local Section , created in 1902, was renamed. In 1983, the North Midlands Centre was renamed the Yorkshire Centre - see IET/CEN/38 for Yorkshire Centre records [appendix 8 of A History of The Institution of Electrical Engineers 1871-1971].
There was one spin-off from the North Midlands Centre which was the Sheffield Sub-Centre which was created in 1919 and which was renamed the Sheffield Centre in 1976. Please see IET/CEN/25 for the Sheffield Sub-Centre records.
This series contains minutes of committee meetings and ordinary meetings, AGMs, sub-committees, sections and the Graduate & Student Committee. Also Honorary Secretary's correspondence on professional tests and anniversary conversazione. Also summer meeting booklets, lecture on the history of the centre and information on the 75th anniversary conversazione, and a programme card.
