- ReferenceUK0108 IET/CEN/04
- Date1969-1995
- Scope and ContentFrom 1982 the Essex Area (previously known as the Chelmsford District) was part of the South East Centre. The South East Centre was created in 1982 and originally comprised the Essex Area, the London Area and the Kent Area. At a Centre Board Meeting 24 May 1990, the request for the Essex, Kent and London Areas to become centres in their own right (meaning the South East centre would no longer exist) was approved. The IEE Council formally approved the reorganisation of the South East Centre at a meeting 8 September 1990. Material relating to the South East Centre can be found at IET/CEN/27. In September 2000, as a result of a strategic review of the Institution's activities and regional operations, the Essex Centre plus certain post codes became the Essex Branch. In October 2006 following the combination of the IIE and IEE to form the IET, the convergence of the IEE Branches and IIE Regions was achieved in the UK through the creation of Local and Regional Networks. At that time the IEE Essex Branch became the Essex Local Network which was part of the Eastern Regional Network.
