Scope and Content
Section of original Ferranti 11kV Deptford to London electric supply cable. Metal label attached to cable says, 'Ferranti 11,000V cable in use from 1890 to 1933, Deptford to London, the first concentric paper insulated cable'.
The cable comes with a leaflet from the Electrical Industries Benevolent Association (EIBA), 6 Southampton Street, London, WC1. The leaflet gives the history of the cable and explains that this paperweight souvenir was being sold by the EIBA to raise funds. Sections of the cable were given to the EIBA by the London Electric Supply Corporation Ltd for this purpose. Information within the leaflet (facts from 1937) would date this object to circa 1938.
