- Scope and Content3 letters from Dr K V Rao FIEE written in 1992 and sent to Dr J C Williams, IEE Secretary. The letters amongst other things discuss Dr Rao's experiences in British Malaya as a telecommunications engineer prior to the outbreak of war in 1941, until the fall of Singapore in February 1942, then up to the re-occupation by the British in 1945. The individual letters are as follows; 01. Letter from Dr K V Rao FIEE written 9 March 1992 and sent to Dr J C Williams, IEE Secretary. The writer mentions a letter sent to the IEE Madras International Centre, dated 25 January 1992, which was to be read out during Dr Williams' visit to Madras together with the IEE President J W Manley (they were undertaking a tour of India and Sri Lanka). The writer was concerned that the letter wouldn't reach Dr Williams in Madras in time and was sending a copy of the 25 January letter to Dr Williams. [Digitised version available] 01A. [attachment to letter 01]. Letter from Dr K V Rao FIEE written 25 January 1992, sent to K B Subramanian in Madras to be read out during a visit of the IEE President and Secretary. The letter describes his role in the Battle of Malaya, when he was an Associate Member of the IEE. At that time he was a telecommunications engineer in charge of all telecommunications in the island of Penang, including submarine cables to the mainland and all other surrounding isalnds. He recounts his experiences working during the Japanese occupation when he held the title of Chief Engineer in charge of all communications in Malaya, Singapore, Java & Sumatra, and mentions assistance given to British civilian and Indian military prisoners of war.
