Strada (Famianus) was a Jesuit b.1572 - d.1649, he wrote Prolusiones Academicae out of which no doubt the piece is taken. I shall look it up in the B[ritish] M[useum] the week after next. 2. Thales is said to have been born 636 BC and lived 90 or 100 years (?). Aristotle affirms that he viewed the soul ([greek word], life principle) as something endowed with motion, (since he said that the stone has a soul (psyche) because it moves iron). 3. Anaxagoras (4th century BC historical date is still a matter of violent controversy) after consulting letters [.]. 4. The ancient Magnesia is now called Mander: it lies in the valley of the Hermus, almost a days' journey from Smyrna: if you wish for a geological description of the valley I will gladly show it to you in Fellows' Asia Minor. 5. I enclose the trans[cript] of Lucretius, which please return at any future time. Yours very truely, Fred Millard." The transcript referred to in point 5 above is SC MSS 3/A/217/3.
