[Note: Bell System was a term that referred generally to all AT&T companies of which there were 4 major divisions; AT&T long lines, Western Electric Company (Bell's equipment manufacturing arm); Bell Labs (conducting research and development for AT&T); and Bell operating companies]
Bell Telephone System Technical Publications is a series of monographs by engineers and scientists of the Bell System. Its issue and distribution were undertaken by Bell Telephone Laboratories. The series which started with monograph B-481, superseded and continued the series of technical papers issued by Bell Telephone Laboratories as reprints B-1-1 to B-480 inclusive.
[Note: There was a historic link between STC and Bell Telephone Laboratories. Bell Telephone Laboratories, created in 1925, was half-owned by Western Electric , the other half belonging to AT&T. In 1925 the US company ITT Corporation bought Western Electric's international operations, the UK operations being renamed Standard Telephones and Cables, and ITT also bought in 1925 the Bell Telephone Manufacturing Company of Brussels, Belgium, and other worldwide subsidiaries from AT&T].
