- Date1984 to 1989
- Scope and ContentIn June 1984 a computer museums and archive study project was set up with which the IEE Archives was involved. This in turn led to the creation of a Computer Archives Working Group which investigated a proposal for a National Computer Archive. Corporate bodies including ICL and STC as well as the IEE and academic organisation such as Manchester University (Dr S H Lavington), Warwick University, King’s College and Cambridge University were represented on that Working Group. This project eventually led to the creation of the National Archive for the History of Computing (NAHC) based at the University of Manchester. These files include the project's working papers and minutes of the Working Group. There are also papers related to the National Research and Development Corporation (NRDC) collection held by the company BTG. The project identified BTG's NRDC collection as being of importance and the collection was deposited with the IEE Archives prior to being transferred some years later (1989) to the NAHC.
