Correspondence and related material about the proposed Royal Charter for the Engineering Council dating from October 1980 to March 1981. This file, originally marked, 'Engineering Council' was probably the personal file of Air Marshal Sir Herbert Durkin, IEE President in 1980, as it contains several original letters sent to Sir Herbert. There is some overlap between the correspondence in this file and IET/ACT/2, but much of the material cannot be found in IET/ACT/2 such as typescript notes of meetings. The file includes much correspondence with Dr Percy Albert Allaway CBE, the Chairman of the Council of Enginering Institutions, which cannot be found elsewhere in IET/ACT/16. There is also correspondence with the Department of Industry and personal correspondence between Robert Caldecote, President of The Fellowship of Engineering, and Sir Herbert.
