Ray Orson papers, primarily reports and letters, relating to financial / organisational aspects of the electricity supply industry (ESI) in the UK and its privatisation which began in 1990 following the Electricity Act 1989. The majority of these papers were written whilst Ray Orson sat on the Electricity Council up to 1989 and during the first year of ESI privatisation in 1990.

Ray W Orson, CBE, held a position on the Electricity Council as its Commercial Officer, and was its expert on tariffs until he retired early in 1989. Afterwards he became Professor Ray Orson, Visiting Professor, University of Surrey.
