Date
Circa 1890 to 1910
Scope and Content
Two large Sunbeam lamps (the name is engraved on the glass) that were used for an unknown purpose. Whilst there were several companies operating in the USA and UK with the Sunbeam name at the end of the 19th Century this Sunbeam bulb is likely to have been made by the UK company called the Sunbeam Lamp Company Limited (1887-1913), a company closely linked to the North-East firm Clarke Chapman and Company Limited.
[Note: Sunbeam was formed in 1887 to manufacture early electric bulbs and carbon filament electric lamps. The partners in this company were William Clarke, A H Chapman and the Honourable C A Parsons (also partners in Clarke Chapman) and it occupied Park House on the Clark Chapman site. The company went into liquidation in 1912 and was closed down in 1926].
