The minutes refer to the retirement of Sydney Evershed from the Board after service as a Director for over 43 years and to his significant scientific achievements (invention of the testing set in 1889 which was the forerunner of the Megger, the Evershed Helm Indicator adopted by the Navy in 1896 and the “Q.C.” fire control gear of 1908). Also mentioned were his scientific work and the many scientific papers that arose from it. Printed copies of the 43rd and 44th Annual Reports are glued in at the end of the Minutes. In the Minutes of the forty-seventh Meeting on 26th July 1940 (page 17) it is mentioned that E.B.Vignoles was standing down as Chairman and replaced by A.Vines and that it was E.B.Vignoles who coined the “Megger” Trade Mark.
