‘Private Letters’ Book No. 18 with dates Aug 30th, 1927 to Feb 15th, 1929. This book contains an A to Z index of letters at the back preceded by 1000 pages of letters.. The letters are replies by Evershed & Vignoles to correspondence received. On the first page of some of the letters are two handwritten numbers separated by a horizontal line. These are to trace a particular correspondence issue. The top number is the page number of the previous reply and the bottom number is the page number of the next reply. The correspondence is varied and covers staff, finance, product and war issues. Most of the letters are signed by E.B.Vignoles (Managing Director) but others are signed by A.Vines (Managing Director), F.C.Knowles (Sales Manager), Tom Tuley (Accountant), W.Short and C.E.Perry (Megger Test Manager). Items of Interest: Letter 543 discusses when and how often the Board Meetings are held. Letter 544 discusses the appointment of Walter Vignoles (Ernest’s brother) as a director.
