Phoenix Fire Office, later known as Phoenix Assurance was a fire insurance company founded in 1680. Phoenix Assurance was acquired by Sun Alliance & London in 1984.
Musgrave Heaphy (1843-1910) was a civil engineer, electrical engineer and a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. He was appointed technical officer of the Phoenix Fire Office, and on the introduction of electric lighting he prepared a careful report on the subject, followed soon after by the first edition of the well-known Phoenix Fire Office Rules, which were the first code of wiring rules for the prevention of fire risks in electric lighting.
