Admin. history/Biography
Crypto Electrical Co was formed in 1899 in Bermondsey to manufacture electric motors and generators. It moved to Acton Lane, Harelsdon in 1913. The company expanded into the development of testing equipment for the motor industry in the 1920s.
Lancashire Dynamo and Motor Company started in Trafford Park, Manchester, in the early 1900s. LDM made heavy duty motors for power stations and gasworks up to 2000 HP.
In 1932 Crypto Electrical Co and Lancashire Dynamo and Motor Company merged to become Lancashire Dynamo and Crypto. To reflect their expansion in to their garage equipment interests the company was renamed Crypton. Crypton grew to play a prominent role in shaping the history of engine diagnostic equipment, soon establishing itself as a household name.
In the 1950s it expanded to become a Group taking over Nelvin Electric Oxted, Foster Transformers Wimbledon, LD Electronics Rugeley plus others.
