Engraving of head and shoulders of Michael Faraday by William Holl, the Younger (1807-1871) from a pencil sketch by George Richmond (1809-1896) for Bence-Jones. On board with Faraday signature and dated 27 March 1852. This is OPC/1/246.
Underneath the signature of Faraday are the words 'from a drawing made in 1852 for Dr Bence-Jones and in his possession: George Richmond RA: William Holl'.
[Note: the original pencil sketch by George Richmond can be seen on page 373 of 'the correspondence of Michael Faraday: volume 4, 1849-1855', edited by Frank A J L James. In that same volume there is a letter from George Richmond to Faraday dated 21 March 1852 (letter 2504) which discusses Faraday's last sitting appointment.]
