Scope and Content
Portrait by Hugh Carter (1837-1903) of Sir Francis Ronalds, FRS (1788-1873), bust length. Signed, oil on canvas, 26 x 21 inches, in a Victorian gilt composition frame.
The portrait was donated to the IEE by the executors of the late Mrs Hugh Carter in 1924. IEE Council minute 24/171 from the meeting of 3 July 1924 says,
"171. Sir Francis Ronalds, FRS
The President reported an offer to the Institution by the executors of the late Mrs Hugh Carter of an oil painting of the late Sir Francis Ronalds FRS, and it was resolved to accept the offer with thanks”.
