Portrait of Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (1815-1852), by Mary Remington after 1836 Margaret Carpenter (1793-1872) portrait situated at that time in the National Physical Laboratory (a Government Art Collection portrait, GAC number 2172, purchased in 1953, and located in 2017 in Downing Street). Full length, at foot of a staircase. Oil on canvas. 60 x 30 inches in a modern gilt composition frame. See also Image 1/1/0284.
See report of the Executive Board to the IEE Council, paper C(83)67 written 23 September 1983, which says in note 13, "The Board has decided that the Institution should acquire portraits of Charles Babbage and Lady Ada Lovelace. It has authorized Professor Ash and the Secretariat to select suitable portraits for copying and a suitable artist(s) and to commission the works provided that the costs are not above the agreed ceiling."
