Copy by William Bradley of Justus Sustermans' 1635 portrait.
The oil portrait of Galileo was purchased by the IEE for the sum of £25 in 1918. It had been offered for sale by G H Gabb (see IEE Council minute no.166, 7 March 1918). Following the Council meeting of 7 March 1918, past IEE president C P Sparks offered to provide the purchase money and to present the painting to the Institution.
