Portrait of Jacob Brett (1808-1897), painted by Alice Bolton in 1891. Jacob Brett was an engineer and pioneer of submarine telegraphy, who laid the first telegrph cable between England and France in 1851. This portrait was presented to the IEE by its artist. Three-quarter length seated. Signed and dated 1891.
44 x 34 inches in an ornate Victorian gilt composition frame.
