Portrait of Andre Marie Ampere (1775-1836) by Edgard Maxence (French, 1871-1954). Three-quarter length portrait, standing in a landscape with lightning. Signed and dated 1929 Paris, oil on canvas. 57inches x 41 inches.
Painting commissioned by Sidney Emile Garcke, but then donated immediately to the IEE. Garcke owned the copyright, which he formally assigned to the IEE, 1 May 1931 [note: assignment contract in legal contracts series - reference Pub 13:23].
