Scope and Content
Portrait of William Gilbert (1544-1603), also known as Gilberd, the English physician, physicist and natural philosopher. Gilbert wrote the book De Magnete (1600), a copy of which is held in the IET Archives. Gilbert is credited as one of the originators of the term 'electricity' and is regarded by some as the father of electrical engineering or electricity and magnetism.
