Proof copy of etching of Babcock & Wilcox boilers at Kersley Power Station, signed by the artist, Cyril Henry Barraud, made circa early 1930s. The etching is titled, 'Kearsley, 16 B&W boilers'. Donated to IEE by Babcock & Wilcox circa 1934. See also OPC/1/015 for Barraud etching of Dunston B Power Station.
Kersley Power Station, Stoneclough, Greater Manchester opened in 1929 with further extensions made in 1936 and 1949. An extensive article about Kersely including photographs and illustrations appeared in 'the engineer, 7 August 1931, pp135-137.
[Note: the artist Cyril Henry Barraud (1877-1965) was a British artist, son of Herbert Rose Barraud and Francis Barraud, whose principal medium was etching. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1912 and 1924. During WWI he served with The Artists' Rifles and was commissioned in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada and after being wounded was posted to the Canadain War Office as an official war artist. In addition to landscapes he painted and etched; London street scenes; popular destinations close to the LNER (railway); cathedrals; churches; industrial building notably interiors of Dunston Power Station; illustration; and christmas cards.]
