Scope and Content
A presentation box with lettering on the outside, 'specimens of mica', which contains 90 samples of mica. There are 9 sheets of card in the box, each sheet containing 10 mounted samples of mica. Accompanying the box is a 'chart of mica exhibits' mounted on folding board.
This collection of representative micas, sourced from around the world, was prepared as part of an investigation into the properties and uses of micas which reported in 1922. The investigation was commenced by the IEE but was under the direction of the Electrical Research Association by 1922. The report on the investigation was received by the 'journal of the IEE' from the British Electrical and Allied Industries Research Association (founded in 1920 and became known as ERA), 18 February 1922, and appeared in the 'journal of the IEE', vol 60, issue 307, 1922, pp339-342
The report refers to this collection of micas prepared from materials supplied by Messrs F Wiggins & Sons and Messrs Startin & Co and said that the collection had been presented to the IEE.
