This autobiography covers the following topics: Meares's childhood at Hadley Lodge, Barnet; school days at Worthing House and Winchester (1881-1889); pupilage and work at Crompton-Parkinson and its subsidiaries (1889-1896); study at University College London (during his pupilage years); transfer to India as engineer in charge of a new hydro-electric scheme in Darjeeling (1896-1898); appointment as Electrical Engineer to the Government of Bengal (1898); military experience with the Calcutta Light Horse (1906-); work as Electrical Advisor to the Government of India (1905-1922); the First World War; the foundation of the Institution of Engineers, India (1918); retirement; the World Power Conference (1924) and the International Electrical Commission.
