Written from Plough and Harrow Hotel. Patent for his lamp will not stand and must be changed to a registration of a design. However, a company are going to take it up and manufacture it and pay him a royalty for it. Trouble with two of the boys at the works. His office at the works will soon be ready and he hopes to be able to do some work there in his spare time. Has had another riding lesson. London troubled by strikes, and local people threatening to strike over the price of meat. Going to Flamborough for an inspection of the new light. Will go to sea to see how it looks from the water. With envelope franked Hageld Road 31 July 1872.
