Title
Als John William Davy to Edward Davy
Reference
UK0108 SC MSS 015/68
Date
1847-05-17
Scope and Content
An attempt to sell the telegraph patent to Bains and Wright for £1000 has failed but it has now been sold to the Electric Telegraph Company for £600. The sum is not as much as might be expected, but there were difficulties in making the model work. He is enthusiastic about Edward's smelting process but fears it will suffer the same troubles as the telegraph i.e. that there will be insufficient capital and time to devote to the business. HE discusses the progress of 'G' [Edward's son George] and mentions various crises in Britain including the Irish potato famine. He encloses with the letter a piece of platina foil [missing].
