Title
Als Thomas Watson to Thomas Davy
Reference
UK0108 SC MSS 015/67
Date
1843-02-14
Scope and Content
He has been approached by Alexander Bain who claims that his inventions of an electric clock and an electric telegraph have been claimed by Wheatstone as his own. In order to make a case against Wheatstone Bain is interested in purchasing Edward's patent and in learning the details of Edward's dealings with Wheatstone. Last Wednesday Watson heard a lecture on the application of electricity to telegraphic uses. It was a 'piece of eulogistic puffery for Messrs Cooke and Wheatstone' and Watson felt bound to defend Edward's invention much to the surprise of the audience.
