Als written from the River Thames, 7 miles below Gravesend, has boarded the ship, but short of hands following a sailors' strike, so waiting for more to be sent. 212 emigrants or steerage passengers, 20 in the cabin and 24 crew on board, with live animals as provisions. Had to leave their truck and agricultural tools to follow on next ship, giving details of shipping agent etc, for forwarding mail. Worried about his son, wishes he had brought him with him, wants assurances that if the [custody] Bill passes Mary Ann [his sister] will take him out of the country to prevent him falling into his mother's hands.
