Written from St Thomas. Been too ill to write. Came via S Domingo on the Vestal as needed to ask the Yantic to take soundings off W end of Port Rico as there is a deep hole which they wish to avoid. Cannot write fully as his papers are on the Dacia, which has not yet arrived at St Thomas. Needs extension to the power of attorney, which should include his brother's name in case of his illness or death. Has had to pay another large bill for the Suffolk, and therefore needs more money. Not enough cable hands fit enough to assist with the repair of the Punta Rossa cable but cannot understand what is taking so long as water is shallow. Porto Rico cable finished end of this week, then laying from Porto Rico to Jamaica.
