Writing to arrange Admiralty soundings for proposed route of the cable, which commences at Santiago de Cuba, goes to Jamaica, where it forks with one branch going to Panama and the other to Porto [sic] Rico and through the chain of West India Islands to Demerara. US Government have already carried out soundings between Jamaica and Cuba and Jamaica and Panama. Giving frequency of soundings and need to discover the nature of the bottom of the sea as well. Will supply a chart showing the approximate route and the soundings should start and finish at suitable landing for the cable.
