Written from Menlo Park, pleased to hear of successful demonstration before the Royal Society, checking details of problems, and suggesting ways to get over them, still cannot understand what the patent problems are, has read Hughes' paper in Nature, and believes that it is all what he has already discovered, and hopes that Hughes will not try to rediscover what took Edison so much experimenting. Gathers that the phonograph has not worked well, and Edison believes this is because it is not properly adjusted.
