- Scope and ContentThis photograph of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was taken by the noted photographer Dorothy Wilding (1893-1976). The photograph was given to WES to use on the front cover of The Woman Engineer (vol.5 no.2, March 1940) alongside a message from Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, dated 19 February 1940, on the occassion of the 21st anniversary of WES. The reverse of the photograph notes that the copyright belongs to Dorothy Wilding and that use of the photograph should acknowledge 'the camera portrait by Dorothy Wilding, 22, Old Bond Street W1'. [Note: a digital copy of this photograph has been made for archival preservation purposes, but cannot be supplied externally until copyright expires in 2046 (life + 70 years). The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) owns the copyright in Dorothy Wilding's works NOT taken in the UK (mainly post-1938 works). For Wilding's UK works the NPG acts as the agent for the Wilding Estate and the NPG's Rights and Images Department should be contacted to apply for a licence to use these images]
