Scope and Content
Autograph letter dated from the Devonshire Club, St James's SW London, saying that he will be unable to join his parents at Sidmouth as planned but may join them at Bournemouth. He must stay in London for the final processes of 'our' Bill in Parliament which will be indefinitely postponed. He mentions dining with Falconer and Wallace, a Scottish MP who has amusing stories about the attitude of the new Radical and Labour MPs to the House of Commons. He also mentions Sir George Gibb being ill and wanting to talk to Merz who is reluctant as Gibb has taken on a bigger job than he expected as the Underground has been left in rather a mess. He also tells his father that Sir Charles Parsons wishes to arrange a meeting between Merz and the District although Merz thinks that any arrangement should not be with the Supply Company. He talks of meeting Heaviside at the Institution of Electrical Engineers and meeting Edmunds who had some connections with the original Ediswan company at the Civil Engineers dinner. McLellan and Merz have been to the theatre to see Hare acting again, and there has been a favourable article about the Newcastle Electric Supply Company in The Statist.
