Autograph letter dated from The Mohawk Club, Schenectady, New York. Ernest and Merz separated at Pittsburgh with Ernest going to Washington. Merz travelled to Niagara Falls and then to Schenectady. Merz met many engineers in Pittsburgh and attended various dinners and lunches including two given by George Westinghouse. Merz has a long list of dinner invitations on his trip. He mentions the developments at Schenectady and comments that 'there seems to be no end to the manufactured articles which this country [USA] will absorb'. He comments on the election of a strong Liberal government and gives his views on protectionism.
