- Scope and ContentTS copy of letter to W H Preece from Marconi. Written in London. Refers to the opinion of the Post Master General that Marconi's equipment is not of proven practical value. Summarises the experiments conducted in Italy and Salisbury. The Italian Admiralty are performing extensive experiments, the results of which are sent to Marconi. Communication has been maintained at sea over 7.3 miles; signals have been transmitted over hills of 200ft (sent over 2.5 miles); improvements have been made to the apparatus. Marconi also mentions Professor Flaby, who has sent signals over 21 km, using balloons. At Salisbury, Marconi has been experimenting on the construction of the transmitters and receivers. He hopes to set up a wireless installation between Guernsey and Sark, but the Company has decided that they must experiment with two permanent stations first. These will probably be at Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight.
