Technical Regulation records of the IET
Reference
UK0108 IET/DEP/14
Date
1882-1995
Scope and Content
The Technical Regulations department prepares regulations for electrical wiring in buildings and on ships, as well as model contracts, along with contributing to national and International standardisation work and providing technical advice to government bodies and other safety organisations.
This series includes copies of all editions of the Wiring Regulations, guides to the Wiring Regulations, correspondence related to the Wiring Regulations and regulations from other agencies and countries. Committee papers concerning wiring regulations can be found in this IET/DEP/14 series, primarily up to the early 1970's, and also in the IET's committee sub-series IET/ORG/4. Specifically IET/ORG/4/14 contains Wiring Regulations Committee and Technical Sub-Committee minutes, agendas, supporting papers and correspondence particularly from the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's.
Prior to 1992 the IEE Wiring Regulations Committee and Sub-Committee was responsible for the wiring regulations, but in 1992 the wiring regulations became a British Standard and a new committee JPEL/64 was established under the control of the British Standards Organisation. After 1992 the Wiring Regulations Policy Committee was established which was an IEE/IET committee dealing with electrical installation issues but was not responsible for the wiring regulations.
IET/ORG/4/15 contains the minutes and supporting papers of the Wiring Regulations Liaison Group. Ships Regulations Committee papers and Ships and Offshore Installations Committee papers after 1970 can be found at IET/ORG/4/18 and IET/ORG/4/19 respectively.
