The Learned Society department of the IEE provided secretarial services for divisional boards and committees, arranged events, conferences and social functions, and provided public relations services. In 1997 the department's name was changed to "Knowledge Services" to make it wider and more relevent. In 2002 Knowledge Services and Member Services were merged to create the "Professional Operations" department. This department was comprised of: Professional Networks, Event Services, Product Development, Recruitment Strategy, Engineering Policy, Library (including Archive), Branch Operations, and Corporate & Regional Development. This series includes records relating to conferences and events arranged by the IEE for the benefit of members and other Engineers, such as Dining Club, Engineers Ball, Conferences, Foreign Language Group, Centenary celebrations and Annual dinners. Events, including technical lectures, meetings, colloquia, programmes and summer schools, particularly where they are not designated specifically as Learned Society/Knowledge Management records can also be found in the IET/EVE series. Material related to IEE social events such as IEE Summer Meetings can be found in the IET/SPE/4 sub-series. Conversazione correspondence and programmes can be found both here (IET/DEP/12/05) and in IET/SPE/4/7. Annual dinner programmes and menus can be found in both IET/DEP/12/7 and IET/SPE/04/06.
