Title
Membership and Qualification records of the IET
Reference
UK0108 IET/DEP/09
Date
1870-2003
Scope and Content
The Qualification and Membership departments look after memberships of the Institution, appointing representatives, awarding scholarships and prizes, and keeping abreast of Professional Qualifications, courses, training and further education.
There were a number of changes to membership catagories. In 1966, Honorary Members became Honorary Fellows. Members became Fellows. Associate Members became Members. Associates became Associate Members. Graduates also became Associate Members. A new level of Associate was introduced. Students and Campanions remained the same.
In 2002 the catagories were streamlined to Student, Member with Postnominals, Member without Postnominals, Fellows and Honorary Fellows. 'Corporate' membership was also dropped.
In 2002, membership of the IEE was seperated from the CEng qualification, in order to attract International members where UK qualifications were irrelevant.
This series includes membership applications, membership lists, leaflets on scholarships, awards and accreditation, IEE Examination papers and pass lists, material relating to Faraday House Engineering College, and qualification requirements for membership.
See also series IET/DEP/18 for the Education Department which contains reports and papers related to education, certificates and diplomas. Where this education material has lost it departmental provenance where it now sits may not accurately reflect whether it originated in either the Membership and Qualifications Department or the Education Department.
