Scope and Content
The IERE sent representatives to many government and scientific bodies, the representation of the Institution increased as it grew in size and stature. The bodies it sent representatives to include the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee, the British Standards Institution and the Council of Engineering Institutions (later the Engineering Council). The IERE Secretary also attended meetings of the secretaries of the chartered engineering institutions. In addition the Institution was involved in the creation of bodies representing the radio industry – for example in 1943 the Institution along with the Radio Retailers’ Associations and the Radio Manufacturers’ Association formed the Radio Trades Examination Board, later the Radio, Television and Electronics Examination Board. The Institution was also closely involved with the founding of the Society of Electronic and Radio Technicians in 1965.
