Scope and Content
Material written and collected by Coales on the history of radar. In 1937 Coales, who was working for the Admiralty Signal Establishment, was put in charge of UHF radio and radar. He was also, from 1939, responsible for gunnery radar. He left in 1945 when he was asked to move to Elliott Brothers to develop a fire-control and radar system. He set about to write a history the the development of naval radar in the late 1980s. This bundle of papers was originally labelled. 'Archival material for metric warning radar and IFF.'
