Evershed & Vignoles was founded by Sydney Evershed and Ernest Vignoles, who bought the instrument section of Goolden and Trotter, where they both worked, in 1895. The 'Megger' trademark was registered in 1903. The company specialised in insulation testers and other test equipment. It also manufactured marine testing and regulation equipment. Evershed & Vignoles became part of the George Kent Group in 1965 and, along with other members of the group, was acquired by Thorn in 1970. In 1972 the Megger division moved to AVO's Dover site.
