Heaviside corresponded with a large number of scientists and mathematicians in Europe and America. Some wrote in reply to Heaviside's own letters asking questions about their work. Others wrote to him with copies of their own work for his comments, or to ask questions about his work. Some correpondents like G F C Searle and G F Fitzgerald kept up a long and continuous correspondence and discussed Heaviside's domestic and financial situation as well as his work. It may well be that the questions raised in this correspondence have a link to the notebooks where Heaviside worked out some of these questions.
