Scope and Content
The papers include results of family history research and an interest in Jacob Leisler, Governor of New York and executed for treason who was an ancestor of the Merz family through Charles Merz's grandmother Charlotte Leisler. The papers include photographs, newspaper cuttings and German documents, some with translations. There are also papers concerning John Theodore Merz, Charles' father and correspondence relating to the offer of a knighthood to Charles Merz and his rejection of it in 1933. A few sketches, an engraving and a survey of property in Nottinghamshire complete the collection.
