Printed regulations from 1905 to be observed aboard HM Telegraph ship Alert, with correction pasted in.
[Note: the first cableship named Alert was originally named the Lady Carmichael (after the Chairman's wife) when it was purchased by the Submarine Telegraph Company in 1880. It had been built in 1871 by A M McMillan and Son, Dumbarton. The ship was bought from the Submarine Telegraph Company in 1889 and was formally renamed Alert by the GPO in 1894. She was employed on the maintenance of submarine cables across the Straits of Dover, before being sold out of service in 1915.]
